Melcher-Dallas science teacher Chelsea Thorsdarson spent part of her summer vacation seeing science in action. At the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge, she had an externship with their education outreach program. She learned about using prairie strips as farmland conservation practice and developed curricula for the Refuge based on this project. She also worked on plant identification, seed collection, invasive plant management, and participated in wildlife surveys.
There will be a Junior High Parent/Player Volleyball meeting on Wednesday, August 24th at 7:00 in the High School Cafeteria.
Anyone in junior high who is planning on coming out for cross country may start practice tomorrow (August 23rd) if you have your physical, concussion, consent and insurance forms completed. We will meet in front of the High School at 3:40. If you do not have your forms completed yet, please see Coach Stuart to let her know that you plan on coming out.

College Planning Week will run Sept 19-25. Each night will highlight one grade level and feature a panel of experts from ICAN, Iowa College Aid, partner colleges and universities, school counselors, and current college students to share information and answer student and parent questions.

Due to the inclement weather, we will be canceling our inter-squad football scrimmage tonight.
FFA is being represented by 2 members serving as Grandstand Ushers.
Paetyn Anderson and MaeLee Gentry went up the day before the fair started for orientation.
They have the opportunity to work the Grandstand acts during the 11 days of the fair.

4-H members turn this week at the Fair.
Cole Metz placed 6th today with his pig.
Lily Schneider showed 2 pigs today receiving 6th place and blue ribbon.
Congrats to all 4-H members that had Static projects advance to state fair as well and to any other livestock exhibitors.
Day 2 at the Iowa State Fair -
Anthony Schneider placed 6th & 10th and Lane VanderLinden had 2 blue ribbons in swine.
Lane also had 1st, 2nd and 2 Reserve Champions in sheep division.
Dr. Kingrey receiving a check from the Marion County Community Foundation in the amount of $3000. A new digital piano will be purchased for the music program with this grant that will benefit all students, K-12.
