Lawnmower fanatic sophomore buys and fixes lawnmowers

By Student Adam Stigleman

Sophomore Colby Schrader knows it all when it comes to buying and flipping lawn mowers. He buys broken and old mowers in all sizes and brands and makes them usable again at his lawnmower shop.

Schrader has had the hobby of flipping mowers for about two years now. He finds the hobby fun, and that’s his reason for dedicating time and money to it. Schrader works on his projects at his garage, also known as the “Lawnmower Shop”. He is good at getting the mowers running quickly. The longest it’s ever taken him to get one running is three days.

He started working on mowers rather than other vehicles because it is an affordable hobby, and they were the “cheapest to get.” Most of the mowers he flips, he sells quickly, but he keeps some of them to enjoy for himself. Schrader’s favorite project that he’s done over the years is his racing mower, called the Pink Pony. Schrader recommends John Deere for racing mowers based on their speed and durability.

Schrader partakes in lawnmower races in his free time, in which there are certain rules and regulations. These races usually contain 15 or more people racing their custom-built mowers around the track. One of the rules is that you cannot weld your transmission together because it creates an unfair advantage. Another rule is that you cannot use a chain.

Schrader has worked on just about every kind of mower there is. His favorite brand to work on, however, is the Red Snapper mower.

Sophomore enjoys outdoor hobbies

By Student Hudson Cox

Sophomore Conner Branson has many hobbies, but the one he enjoys the most and shares with others is hunting and fishing. People around the school know that Branson loves the outdoors.

Branson likes hunting the most out of his hobbies because he gets to go outside and see nature, as well as a lot of different wildlife. He said, “You get to see the different sizes of deer and wildlife.” He is just now getting into bow hunting and is trying to shoot the deer that he had seen earlier in the year while hunting.

Branson also loves fishing, going on trips with his family, and catching big fish. Branson’s favorite fishing trip was when he went to Wisconsin with his family. His favorite memory while he was there was seeing how many different species of fish he could catch and catching a nine-pound salmon. His favorite lure is a spinner bait, which attracts fish by mimicking fleeing schools of bait fish.

Any spare time he gets, he is outside, either in sports, hunting, or fishing. Branson’s grandparents, Randy and Penny, have a big pond in their backyard that he is constantly fishing from.
