Twelve chemistry students recently placed 8th in a national competition called Molympics (Mole Olympics)!
This competition was designed by several devoted Chemistry teachers to learn about Avogadro's number, 6.02 X 10^23, or one mole and its importance in chemistry. The mole is a counting unit and represents the number of atoms in 12.0115 grams of carbon.
On October 24, Melcher-Dallas students competed in various lab activities against 7,765 students from 134 schools in 33 states and a few countries . The activities involved skills such as estimation, measurement, dimensional analysis and problem solving.
This is only the second year that MD students have participated in this event and they finished eighth overall! Way to go students and teacher Karen Sorensen.
