Student and staff predictions mostly wrong for CyHawk game

Students and staff at Melcher-Dallas high school were excited for the CyHawk game on Saturday, September 7th.

A poll was taken at the school, asking 35 students and staff their opinions on the game. 29 were in favor of the Iowa Hawkeyes, while only 6 thought the Cyclones would win.

Many predicted a close game, with the final score below 50 total points, while others believed it would be a blowout. The Cyclones won in a last minute field goal, making the game 20-19 before the final seconds of the game ran out.

Teacher Andy Kelley, a former Iowa State football player, had high hopes for his Cyclones, predicting a win. Kelley said “It was unbelievable.”

8th grader Harper Rogers believed the game would have an unbelievable 100-0 score in favor of the Hawkeyes.

Teacher Michelle Fay attended the game to watch the Hawkeyes “win”. Fay, a Hawkeye season ticket holder, said “I’m really proud of the kicker, it made my mom heart happy.”

The game kicked off at 2:30pm at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. Unfortunately for many in the school district, the Hawkeyes lost. “It was a good game, if you were an Iowa State fan… Which I’m not,” principal Abby Heaberlin said.
