The Saints football team reflected on last Friday’s big win.
Melcher-Dallas defeated Mormon Trail 62-6, a very different look from last week against Murray.
Sophomore captain Hunter DeGard said that the game on Friday was different from last week. “We were able to get into a rhythm a lot faster.” He also said, “the support was a huge part of it.”
Reece Chiabotta, a junior captain, said the difference between Friday’s game and the game against Murray was that there was a larger focus on being physical. “The blocking was better up front so we had more time to throw the ball.” Chiabotta had two receiving touchdowns.
Senior captain Ryan Heaton said practice looked a bit different this week “We knew what we did wrong, so we touched on those the most.” Heaton had two receiving touchdowns in just two targets, and four solo tackles.
Senior captain Brody Johnson said “the line really improved.” He also said the crowd helped a lot. “It affected our mental energy.” Johnson completed 8 of 17 passing attempts, for 187 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Junior running back CJ Smith ran for 108 yards on 12 carries, for two touchdowns. He averaged 9 yards per carry.
The Melcher-Dallas Saints play again on September 6th at home against Belle Plaine.
