College Prep 2023

Over the last few weeks of school, I am going to post articles that were written by Ms. Sanderson's College Prep class.  The students all were tasked with writing an article about something that is going on at school this spring for the community to read.  I hope you enjoy these pieces!

First up, is an article about prom by Karsyn Mateer and Brooklyn Metz:

The Adventures of Prom

Our prom was April 15. Our group met at Karsyn’s house at noon to get ready and take pictures. We made a TikTok and it went viral. After our group pictures were done, most people met at the park, at two, to get group pictures. After that, our group went to Sportspage in Indianola, to eat. Five out of the eight of us ordered chicken strips and fries. Once we were done eating, we went to Scooters and Starbucks. We got back to town around five. We didn’t want to drive around for two hours so we hung out at Karsyn’s house till 6:15. We drove around until 7:15 which is when walk-in started. walk-in was at the firestation because it was the biggest space, since we don’t have a gym. There were way more people that showed up than we thought there would be. After walk-in, we took more pictures with people then went to the dance.

Everyone got to the dance at eight, and it went until 11:00. In the past, people just sat at the tables and didn't dance. This year, at one point, everyone was on the dance floor. We had a mix of different songs from slow dances to the cha cha slide. Some of the boys found it more interesting to watch basketball, but we eventually dragged some on the dance floor. They had lots of snacks like chips, trail mix, fruit, cheesecake, and of course pop. The juniors had decorated the day before, and the theme was Night of A Thousand Lights. We had a bunch of lights and black backdrops. Wendy Chiabotta took photos of all the couples and some group photos. At the end of the night, the energy was still high as we waited for after prom.

At after prom there was laser tag, a big hungry hungry hippo inflatable, a whack-a-mole inflatable, and a cash vault where you could win prizes. For food, there were sandwiches, a vegetable and fruit tray, and dinky donuts. At like 1:00 a.m., the fire alarms started going off so everyone had to go outside in the freezing cold. The cop had to come turn them off for us. We don’t know why they were going off, but eventually, we got to go back in. At 1:30, the hypnotist started. Once everyone was getting into hypnosis, the fire alarms went off again. Everyone went back outside and waited for the cop, so we could go back in. We got back in and the hypnotist started over. It lasted for an hour and they were all doing really funny things. At one point Karsyn was talking about these polka dot pigs flying through the air, and Paetyn was talking in her southern accent. Karsyn was also on national tv and said that she was Tik Tok famous. After the hypnotist was over, everyone got their prizes they won from the cash vault and went home.
