New golf season brings new problems

Boys golf will be moved to the fall season starting in 2025 small schools aren't happy about it and neither is the Melcher-Dallas golf team
The IHSAA said this move was due to congestion in the spring sports season, with hopes to lighten the load on athletes. Mr. Crozier, Melcher-Dallas golf coach, said “I’m not very happy about it.” He also claimed “It will be hard for football athletes to be out for football and golf. It was way easier to work around track.”
Crozier said athletes will have to find a way to practice. He wouldn’t be okay with them missing all practices and showing up to meets. The athletes would have to find a way to make up practices whether that would be on the weekend or whenever they have time.
Sophomore golfer Rocky Johnson was upset with the situation, unsure if he’d be able to play football and golf together.
Hunter Degard said “It's dumb. In football you can't be skipping days.” He also claimed he would still go out, but would have to find a way to practice without missing football.
Easton Juline said he didn’t like it either. “One of the main reasons I go out is to get that free membership.” He wouldn't be able to golf in summer without spending way more money and claims “it's just a- just a business play you know?” Juline would still find a way to go out for golf.
Small schools are currently trying to fight this decision and move it back to spring. It’s harder for smaller schools with less athletes to get the numbers they want for each sport.
