The Melcher-Dallas volleyball team travels to Orient-Macksburg to take on the Bulldogs on Thursday, August 29th for the season opener.
Senior Hayden Branson said the team was preparing by practicing skills that need improvement. “We finally have two courts so we can split up and have more time to practice and run through more drills.”
Hitting and passing are two of those skills. Serving is important since that’s where the game starts, but passing is a close contender.
Melcher-Dallas has a lot of returning players, including six starting seniors. Coaches Nolte and Sorensen emphasized that starting positions are to be earned and not given. Sorensen wants to make sure the team doesn’t give up, gives everything they have on the court, and are coachable.
Winning and having a better record than last season are top priorities. “Our team goal is to play as a team and not individuals,” sophomore Kesley Reed said. Lotty Nolte’s personal goal is “to win JV and get in some varsity time.”
This will be the last time the Saints play Orient-Macksburg due to the closing of their school district after this year. “We want to end it with a win,” sophomore Ashlyn Metz said. Another goal for the game is to stick together and not get frustrated with themselves and each other.
JV starts at 5:30 with varsity to follow. Come support the Saints.
