Junior Izzy Carter went and performed at the state speech competition Saturday, March 9th. She performed in the poetry category. The title of her poem was Insight.
Izzy said, “I think I did good. There were a few slip ups here and there, but it was my best performance yet.” Izzy received a score of 2 at state, which is “good”. She scored a 1 or “excellent” at districts and said she was not expecting it.
Speech coach Ms. Benedict said that Izzy did really well. “She took the advice from Mrs. Heaberlin and I, and performed to her best ability,” said Ms. Benedict. Speech helps to build your speaking and listening skills, and become a better speaker overall.
Izzy’s goal next year is to receive a 1 at state. She encouraged others who are interested to come watch a meet and see if they like it.
Benedict said she wanted to start speech earlier next year, and change their introductions. Group improvisation was one of her favorite parts about speech. She highly encouraged students to go out for speech.
