4th and 5th Grade Field Trip Incident
Exercising your Character
I wanted to make all of you aware that while we were stopped at Ewing Park in Des Moines for lunch, we witnessed an incident with the police.
From Mrs. Milner:
We were sitting at tables eating lunch when several vehicles came to a stop on the street. Unmarked cars blocked a truck from traveling down the street. Then many police officers wearing coats that said POLICE, FBI, and DEA on the back, surrounded the vehicle and pulled the driver out of the truck. Police did have their weapons drawn. We quickly told all students to get down. Most sat under their picnic tables while some were lying in the grass. Students did hear some strong language being used by both the police and the person being arrested.
The incident was over quickly. We did our best to protect and comfort students.
Many of the 4th grade students were getting carried away with "what if's" and exaggerated stories. We tried to reassure them that we did our best to keep them as safe as we possibly could.
You may want to ask them about their feelings on what they saw. Please message me if I can answer any other questions.
